Baselworld 2014: Antoine Martin Shows New Versions Of The Slowrunner (Live Pics)
The Antoine Martin Slowrunner that was released about a year ago came with a stupendously large balance wheel that beat at an astounding 1Hz. Baselworld 2014: Ulysse Nardin Introduces The Hourstriker Tiger
When you say Jaquemarts, you are instantly saying Ulysse Nardin. A new addition to this collection is always a special […]

Baselworld 2014: The Hermès Dressage L’Heure Masquée Continues The Art Of The Whimsical Complication (Video)
There’s something beautiful about whimsical complications, the kind that purposely disregards the utilitarian function of a watch: that of telling time, in order to make a statement. Like the well regarded Hermès Arceau Le Temps Suspendu, the new Dressage L’Heure Masquée (literally “Time Hidden”) from the same brand continues their somewhat playful obsession, that of making the […]

Baselworld 2014: Hands On With The Zenith El Primero Lightweight (Live Pics)
Surprise was what the Zenith El Primero Stratos Flyback Striking 10th chronograph elicited when it was first shown at BaselWorld in 2010. The mesmerizing effect of the large red hand moving faster than expected was, without doubt, what most watch lovers would define as their “Striking 10th moment”, when previous expectations on how a chronograph […]

The Depths of Understanding – History of the Rolex Sea-Dweller
There’s something about a dive watch that emanates an unassailable image of unabashed cool. We’re talking Johnny Hartman and John Coltrane jamming in ice underpants cool. Maybe it has to do with the rakish élan perpetuated by 007 pairing his white dinner jacket with the Rolex Submariner ref. 6538 on a Nato strap. You could easily imagine him shucking shantung and diving into the sea to demolish the assembled forces of SMERSCH with nothing more than a sharpened clamshell, a bevy of torpedo-chested lady friends and his trusty dive watch. But it also has to do with the total veracity and slavish devotion to function embodied by these timepieces. After all, these were tools that soldiers and civilians alike literally depended on with their very lives.

BASELWORLD DIARY – DAY ONE
My first BaselWorld day kicked off with the traditional fair press conference where I discovered that Swiss exports were up 1.9%, that I was one of a staggering 4,000 journalists visiting the show, and one of the 50 percent of people working in the Swiss watch industry who aren’t actually Swiss! First Look At Bulgari’s Stunning New L’Ammiraglio Del Tempo [VIDEO]
For some absurd reason, there are some people who still don’t think of Bulgari as being a company that produces technical watches. This is despite the fact that they have created - with the aid of their assimilated workshops from Daniel Roth and Gerald Genta - watches such as the automata repeaters “Il Giocatore” and […]
