How Are Tudor Watches Made? Celebrating 100 Years With A Behind-The-Scenes Look

The Tudor brand was founded exactly 100 years ago, in February 1926. Though the world was undoubtedly a very different place then, and the people responsible for Tudor’s creation are no longer around, the brand remains. Their legacy and the values that have shaped the brand over the past century live on. Now, in February […] Visit How Are Tudor Watches Made? A Visit To The De Rijke & Co. Atelier, Where The New Capri Was Crafted

You might know De Rijke & Co. from its Amalfi Series. Those watches feature a driver’s case that can be rotated 90 degrees for better legibility while your hands are on the steering wheel. We wouldn’t call it a sports watch, but it’s certainly not a dress watch either. Right at the end of last […] Visit A Visit To The De Rijke & Co. IWC Ingenieur Automatic 42 Black Ceramic Review: Stealth Meets Genta Design

The IWC Ingenieur Automatic 42 Black Ceramic is a stealth watch with Genta’s DNA baked into the material. But does it stand on its own? Let’s find out! What We Love The Ingenieur design is adapted to black ceramic Dial legibility is still present Finishing of the material makes this a standout watch What We Don’t Lack of the quick link adjustment system on the bracelet The all-black look may not be for everyone’s tastes The 42 mm sizing makes this watch wear different to the Ingenieur 40 and may not suit a smaller wrist Overall Rating: 8.6 / 10 Value for Money: 8.5/10 Wearability: 8/10 Design: 9/10 Build Quality: 9/10 The Ingenieur dominated IWC’s 2025 Watches & Wonders releases, expanding into new sizes and materials. And, of course, there was the quickly sold-out green dial inspired by the vintage Ingenieur SL worn by Brad Pitt in F1: The Movie. But one model possibly stood apart from the rest: the 42 mm all-black ceramic Ingenieur. Not because it was louder, but because it fundamentally changed how the Ingenieur is built, worn, and perceived. We were lucky to catch up with IWC’s CEO, Chris Grainger-Herr, who explained that developing the Ingenieur in an all-ceramic case and bracelet wasn’t as simple as remaking the watch in a different material. Ceramic is notoriously hard to work with, and it is not a case of a simple material swap. It requires a lot more attention – one reason why the Ingenieur is in a slightly larger 42 mm size. Myself, Chris Grai...

Making A Case For Desk Clocks In A World Obsessed With Watches

There’s something slightly ironic about spending most of your day surrounded by watches yet rarely checking the time on your wrist. I’m guilty of often checking my phone rather than my watch. But when you work at a desk, the object that quietly governs your day isn’t the watch you chose that morning. Rather, it’s […] Visit Making A Case For Desk Clocks In A World Obsessed With Watches to read the full article.

Introducing – The Time Sonar-Inspired Seiko 5 Sports HUF Limited Edition SRPM09

In the ever-growing Seiko 5 Sports collection, there are classic models and then some pretty cool limited editions, either inspired by the past or produced in collaboration with brands or franchises that have not much to do with watchmaking (at least at first sight). That can be anything from Pepsi bezel watches actually made together […]

Why I Bought The Venezianico Arsenale Bizantino

There are many ways a certain watch can become your next target. Brands hope that presenting their latest creations and making them somewhat rare sparks your desire. For my next watch acquisition, I no longer follow a certain brand’s novelty announcements. Well, in a way, I am following all brands, which I partly justify by […] Visit Why I Bought The Venezianico Arsenale Bizantino to read the full article.

Why I Could Fall In Love With The Quirky Rolex Explorer II Ref. 16570

There’s an odd sort of feeling to taking a Rolex Explorer II into the ocean. Even here, off the rolling waves of Sydney’s eastern beaches, you notice something about this watch that most sports watches I’ve spent time with simply don’t share: it feels in its element. You don’t take a 16570 into the surf […] Visit Why I Could Fall In Love With The Quirky Rolex Explorer II Ref. 16570 to read the full article.

Hands On: Daniel Roth Extra Plat Skeleton Rose Gold SJX Watches

Hands On: Daniel Roth Extra Plat Skeleton Rose Gold

Daniel Roth announced a subtle shift in its direction with the recent Extra Plat Rose Gold Skeleton. While the brand’s prior models like the tourbillon were essentially remakes of models made by the brand in the 1990s, the Extra Plat skeleton is an entirely new model that shares practically nothing with historical designs save for the case shape. Because the Extra Plat skeleton is, well, skeleton, it ably shows off the quality of execution on both sides. Beyond finishing, the movement also stands out for details that illustrate the taste of its constructor(s). It’s telling that the movement could have been done more simply without anyone noticing, but it wasn’t. Initial thoughts Daniel Roth’s resurrection got off to a strong start, underpinned by watches with top quality execution. The initial models, however, were remakes of 1990s originals. A brand with Daniel Roth’s ambitions (and well-resourced backer) won’t go very far with only replicas of historical models. The Extra Plat Skeleton illustrates the people behind the brand understand that. The Extra Plat Skeleton, in contrast, is the first all-new model rolled out by Daniel Roth in its current form. It encapsulates all of the strengths of the brand, namely the capable, high-end watchmaking of La Fabrique du Temps (LFT) and the distinctive double-ellipse case. While the Extra Plat Skeleton is powered by a movement derived from that in the Extra Plat, it is clearly a different calibre. And because the movemen...
