Recently, in Nashville, Tennessee members of the Worn & Wound joined forces with our friends at Bulova, Accutron, Alpina and Frederique Constant to bring some amazing timepieces to  Music City, U.S.A. It was a night of fine food, good friends, and great live music for all to enjoy at the amazing Tennessee Brew Works. We were thrilled to learn that it was the very first watch meetup for many in attendance. Folks came in from far and wide, braving some rather nasty weather, to celebrate their enthusiasm with other enthusiasts.  Our awesome brand partners brought some classic and rarer timepieces for everyone to enjoy and even purchase. Bulova came with their newest edition of the Lunar Pilot in a bold red colorway, as well as the latest versions of the Surveyor, Jet Star, and Super Seville with Bulova’s state-of-the-art Precisionist movement. Recapping the Worn & Wound Summer Pop-Up Hosted by The James Brand

On Saturday, August 17th, Worn & Wound hit the West Coast to celebrate the opening of the newest headquarters of The James Brand. A large multipurpose space, the Oceanside, California The James Brand location serves as office space, a storefront highlighting their vast collection of EDC items, and now an event space capable of hosting the enthusiast community keen on engaging with and celebrating our shared hobbies. To celebrate its opening, The James Brand invited us out for a one-day-only pop-up event along with our friends from Artefkt, Belmont, Brew, Citizen, Lōcī, Zodiac, and of course, the Windup Watch Shop was there as well. Recently, we have had the pleasure of hosting and attending some excellent meetups allowing us to share our enthusiasm in a more intimate setting. On our first visit to the greater San Diego area, we were overwhelmed by the positivity, passion, and overall good vibes hoisted upon us by the locals. Making the trek down from Los Angeles and up from San Diego, Oceanside became a confluence for both the watch and EDC communities to explore new gear pairings, share their collecting thought processes, and discuss practicality and design. 5 Watches To Start A Collection

Having a collection of watches isn’t generally something you plan on. It’s something that emerges over time, and it’s rarely a linear path. While it may seem natural to focus on finding the perfect watch or watches to fill out your watch box, the reality is that all watches have their faults, and the real key is learning which of those you can live with, and which you can’t. In time, some of those, let’s call them quirks, can even become endearing. With that in mind, instead of looking at watches that will begin a collection, let us take a look at watches that will end up lasting in your collection. Sure, they could start your collection, but they could just as easily end it, whether that collection consists of two watches, or 50.  With that, here are 5 watches that would kick off any collection with a bang, and that I feel would have a high likelihood of sticking around for the long term.  Disclaimer: these selections will lean a bit toward the tool watch end of the spectrum, as those are the watches that I find the most well-rounded and practical for my purposes. Worn & Wound and the Horological Society of Utah Bring Alpina and More to Salt Lake City

The Horological Society of Utah is a growing consortium of collectors and enthusiasts in Salt Lake City and throughout the Intermountain West. Their nonprofit is dedicated to supporting the culture of horology through education and community. John Liley and Aaron Recksiek, some of the Society’s founding members, reached out to Worn & Wound to co-create a fun event designed to delve into a handful of brands right in the heart of the Salt Lake Valley- which is, of course, Squatters Pub Brewery. Alpina, Bulova, Accutron, and Frederique Constant answered the call.  Last Thursday, with an epic view of the Wasatch Front, the entire second floor of the well-known SLC-based brew pub was filled with enthusiasts and collectors all seeking to get their hands on the latest and greatest from each brand. Alpina led the charge, with a full complement of their latest Alpiner Extreme Automatic models, including their California Dial variant-clearly a crowd favorite that evening.  Bulova and the Windup Watch Shop joined forces to outfit their line of Hack field watches with US-made Mil-Straps. Anyone who purchased a Hack watch was able to pick out an ADPT strap of their choice to pair with their new watch. As you can see from the images, It’s clear that those watches and straps are just meant to be together. Collector Profile: Andrew Benzer and His Prodigious “To Sell” Pile

Andrew Benzer has around twenty or thirty watches he’d like to get rid of at any given time. The longtime reader and friend of Worn & Wound’s slough pile would form an impressive collection on its own, complete with grail watches like an Omega Speedmaster Professional. The watches he holds on to are even more varied and impressive. “I love watches, I love different kinds of watches,” said Andrew in an interview. “There is no other experience that’s akin to actually having something on your wrist for an extended period of time. And as a result, I have acquired probably more watches than most people would like to admit.” That collection is in the range of 60 to 70 watches and major names like Tudor, Omega, Zenith, and Grand Seiko, and smaller brands like Brew, Ming, and Halios. Marathon Introduces a New Steel Navigator with an Automatic Movement

If you want immediate Watch Nerd cred with something coming in at around the $1,000 price point or less, there are a handful of options for any budding (or experienced) watch enthusiast. Seiko, of course. G-SHOCK, too. And you can have your pick from many great microbrands, including Lorier, Baltic, and Brew, and too many others to name. If your tastes veer toward the tactical, however, and you happen to be a lume connoisseur, Marathon is (somehow) still under the radar, makes a high quality, well designed watch that just about anyone who has been around the horological block will appreciate. Their newest release, an automatic version of their 41mm Steel Navigator, takes a classic Marathon silhouette and gives it an automatic movement.  Marathon has been manufacturing timing instruments of all kinds for various militatires since the 1940s, and the Navigator case, with its familiar asymmetrical shape, will scream “issued military watch” to many collectors. The original Steel Navigator traces its roots to the 1980s, when it was developed in partnership with Kelly Air Force Base for use by pilots. Everything about the design is function first – this is a pure tool watch if there ever was one. It’s got a 12 hour bezel for foolproof tracking of a second time zone, a two-tiered hour track with a 12 and interior 24 hour scale, a 41mm case crafted from stainless steel without a polished surface in sight, and, maybe most notably, an array of tritium tubes on the dial and h...

In this episode of On-Wrist Reaction, Zach and Blake take a gander at not three, but 4 watches that represent 4 very different approaches to the small/kinda-small independent brand space. We get a first look at a couple favorites from Brew and Vulcain that you might be familiar with, and find plenty to enjoy in these staples, as well as ponder if there’s any colorway that wouldn’t suit the Metric (if so, we haven’t found it). There are also a pair of unexpected watches from the brands Timeless and Atelier Holger, each displaying unique and conceptual ideas that we look forward to exploring further in their full reviews, coming soon. The Timeless HMS presents an array of ideas, and while they might not all land, there’s plenty of details to admire. Likewise, the Atelier Holger takes plenty of risks that we love seeing, and looks to challenge a price range not often occupied by new micro-brands. They represent two stand out releases this year from brands we hope to see more from.
