Drake shows us “Life is Good” with his custom Patek Philippe Nautilus designed by Louis Vuitton Artistic Director

Drake recently took to Instagram to let us know about his latest watch acquisition - a fully custom Patek Philippe Nautilus Annual Calendar Ref. 5726 that had been black DLC-coated and gem-set with dozens of emeralds. While Drake is well known for his love of the Genevan firm, this watch was special for a couple of … ContinuedThe post Drake shows us “Life is Good” with his custom Patek Philippe Nautilus designed by Louis Vuitton Artistic Director appeared first on Time+Tide Watches.

INTRODUCING: Ocean blue barrels – the Hublot Spirit of Big Bang Blue

Magical cylindrical tunnels of water. Riding inside a barrelling wave is considered by some to be the be-all and end-all of surfing. And while Hublot’s latest addition to the Spirit of Big Bang collection doesn’t exactly call for a rashie or a coating of wax, it does capture the essence of the sea, with an … ContinuedThe post INTRODUCING: Ocean blue barrels – the Hublot Spirit of Big Bang Blue appeared first on Time+Tide Watches.

LIST: Somewhere over the rainbow – 8 of the year’s best gem-set watches

There’s no point sugar-coating it. Gem-set watches aren’t for everyone. For one, all that ice racks up the price tag (so much so that all the watches below are POA), and for another, it takes a certain type of person to appreciate the - occasionally over-the-top - artistry it takes to make a watch shine … ContinuedThe post LIST: Somewhere over the rainbow – 8 of the year’s best gem-set watches  appeared first on Time+Tide Watches.

VIDEO: Solar flair – Seiko’s stylish Prospex SSC618P

Dive watches, thanks in part to their function-before-form ideology, can often be, well, formulaic. Seiko’s bold gold SSC618P manages to buck the trend in a few ways. Firstly, and most obviously, they’ve dressed up rugged steel with an unmissable rose gold coating, which must surely increase visibility underwater, as it’s certainly eye-catching on land. Then … ContinuedThe post VIDEO: Solar flair – Seiko’s stylish Prospex SSC618P appeared first on Time+Tide Watches.

HANDS-ON: Return of a legend – the Halios Puck II

Over the years, I’ve worn many (many) watches for review purposes, and to be honest it’s rare that I’m still thinking about that watch months or years after the fact. The Puck, from Canadian micro-brand Halios, is one of the rare exceptions. I wrote up the DLC version of the original Puck over on Hodinkee, way … ContinuedThe post HANDS-ON: Return of a legend – the Halios Puck II appeared first on Time+Tide Watches.

LOOKBOOK: Dude, Where’s Your Watch? Summer Edition

While the watch world’s glitterati (including a fair chunk of Team T+T) shiver in Geneva, warming their frost-bitten hands over pots of fondue, those of us left here in Australia are enjoying a lovely summer. Conjure the usual stereotypes: prawns, barbecues etc. You get the picture. Of course, an overall coating of perspiration and seafood … ContinuedThe post LOOKBOOK: Dude, Where’s Your Watch? GONE IN 60 SECONDS: Come to the Dark Side with the Bulgari Octo Ultranero

Few would contest that Bulgari’s Octo is a great watch – a distinctive design jam-packed with legacy. What could possibly make it better? Well, how about a mean, stealthy and downright cool black ADLC coating? Yeah, that’ll do the trick. If you’ve been on the fence about Bulgari, the Octo Ultranero will convert you. Don’t … ContinuedThe post GONE IN 60 SECONDS: Come to the Dark Side with the Bulgari Octo Ultranero appeared first on Time+Tide Watches.

Hands On: Vacheron Constantin Overseas Dual Time “Cardinal Points”

The Vacheron Constantin (VC) Overseas Dual Time “Cardinal Points” was one of the most talked about releases of Watches & Wonders — despite being a somewhat predictable, incremental upgrade to an existing model. The response is indicative of strong product/market fit and the transformative power of colour and texture. Initial thoughts By all accounts, the Overseas Ultra-Thin ref. 2500V should have been the talk of the VC booth at Watches & Wonders. The copper-dialled platinum edition recalls one of the most sought-after models in the Overseas canon, and introduced a new micro-rotor movement that feels destined to be a big part of the brand’s movement strategy going forward. But it was the Overseas Dual Time that seemed to get people talking, despite its predictability and the fact that it’s a much more incremental update to an existing model. In my view, there are three reasons for this. First and foremost, it’s a perfectly targeted product, aimed at a well of unmet demand that has been simmering since the the titanium Dual Time was first teased seven years ago. The high/low contrast between the industrial-haute horlogerie build quality and the sporty aesthetic is inherently appealing. In some ways it feels like the perfect watch for locales like Sun Valley or Davos — the dual-time functionality is purpose-built for vacations (and economic forums) and the colours and textures will pair well with Mammut or Patagonia. Second, all four editions — named for the ...
