FRIDAY WIND DOWN: 25th November 2016 – the metal AF edition

Editor’s note: Sometimes things take on a life of their own. Like, for example, when you ask Instagram if anyone can think of some watch-themed heavy metal band names? The wave of mutilations suggestions that followed hit us like a Vulgar Display of Power. It gave the week a serious metal twist and since then we’ve … ContinuedThe post FRIDAY WIND DOWN: 25th November 2016 – the metal AF edition appeared first on Time+Tide Watches.

FRIDAY WIND DOWN: 18th November, 2016

It’s been a week of milestones, both minor and major. A Patek Philippe became the most expensive watch ever sold at auction (again), the 2016 GPHG awards were announced (well done to all the winners) and Andrew clocked up a significant birthday. All occasions to celebrate. Prost! What happened In what feels these days like a … ContinuedThe post FRIDAY WIND DOWN: 18th November, 2016 appeared first on Time+Tide Watches.

SPOTTED! BY AG: Dispatch 2, November 2016

October was a crazy, crazy month, but before we dive in, I must address the bronze elephant in the room. Carl has gone, and he’s not coming back. Yes, our lucky survey winner (at odds of roughly 3000:1), chose the Oris Carl Brashear Limited Edition. Anyway, back to it. This month you might’ve noticed me … ContinuedThe post SPOTTED! FRIDAY WIND DOWN: 11th November, 2016 – the American greatness edition

Well, the unavoidable news this week is that Donald Trump is the President-elect of the United States – a surprise victory won on the back of a promise to ‘Make America Great Again’. Don’t worry – we won’t get all political on you. But we did feel this edition of the Wind Down was the … ContinuedThe post FRIDAY WIND DOWN: 11th November, 2016 – the American greatness edition appeared first on Time+Tide Watches.

FRIDAY WIND DOWN: 4th November, 2016 – the British edition

Today’s wind down is a little bittersweet. Sweet because it’s an absolutely gorgeous day here in Melbourne, bitter because we have more than a light case of FOMO. Right now, despite the weather, we’d much rather be hanging out in rainy London with all the cool kids at Salon QP. But there’s no point getting all gloomy … ContinuedThe post FRIDAY WIND DOWN: 4th November, 2016 – the British edition appeared first on Time+Tide Watches.

Editor’s Note: It will surprise no-one to learn that Andy Green spends a significant amount of time each month in cafés, handling watches – of fairly staggering scope and value – and meeting people. That was pretty much our brief to him when we started working with Andy officially back in the early days of Time+Tide. Go forth. … ContinuedThe post SPOTTED! FRIDAY WIND DOWN: 7th October, 2016 – the paradise edition

This is the strangest feeling Friday in a very long time. For starters, I associate Friday with relaxing, with kicking back and maybe getting away. Hitting the road and heading out to the beach, for example. Considering I’ve just returned from 48 hours in one of the most pristine islands and beaches in the world … ContinuedThe post FRIDAY WIND DOWN: 7th October, 2016 – the paradise edition appeared first on Time+Tide Watches.

FRIDAY WIND DOWN: 23rd September, 2016 – the high life edition

This week we’ve been busy swanning around, sipping fine (glow-in-the-dark) Champagnes and chatting to the beautiful people while driving exotic cars. Of course in between all these tastes of la dolce vita we’ve been perusing some truly exceptional watches. What does this mean for the Wind Down? Well, we’re forgoing our traditional chilled alcoholic beverage … ContinuedThe post FRIDAY WIND DOWN: 23rd September, 2016 – the high life edition appeared first on Time+Tide Watches.

FRIDAY WIND DOWN: 9th September, 2016

I’d like to start this week’s Wind Down by asking you all to stop what you’re doing and give a big round of applause to Melbourne’s weather. Seriously, non-denominational weather gods – you have delivered the goods this week. FRIDAY WIND DOWN: 2nd September, 2016 – the advertising edition

Want to know something scary? 2016 is practically over. It’s 115 sleeps until Christmas. Which equals 17 more weeks or, most horrifyingly of all, a mere 85 business days. I don’t know about you, but I’m still recovering from #xmas15. There’s only one thing to do. Have a drink (and read about watches). Video Review – A Closer Look at the Armin Strom Minute Repeater Resonance, and Its Brilliant 12:59 “Show Off” Mode

The idea of combining the resonance effect and a minute repeater isn’t new to Armin Strom. The independent watchmaker already, back in 2019, presented a technically impressive watch (what else to expect, as everything the brand does is technically impressive), the Masterpiece Minute Repeater Resonance. Regarding pure watchmaking, there was nothing to complain about here. […]

First Look – Baltic and SpaceOne Team Up to Present the Brilliant Seconde Majeure Watch

Some of the best creations often result from the least expected encounters… However, when two radically different creative minds start to work together, nothing says that the alchemy will develop. More often than not, the connection doesn’t come to fruition. At first, there was seemingly no reason for entities like Baltic and SpaceOne to collaborate. […]

Watches, Stories, & Gear: Tim Cook Steps Down, a James Brand Favorite Gets an Upgrade, and Amazing Photos From Artemis II

“Watches, Stories, and Gear” is a roundup of our favorite content, watch or otherwise, from around the internet. Here, we support other creators, explore interesting content that inspires us, and put a spotlight on causes we believe in. Oh, and any gear we happen to be digging on this week. We love gear. Artemis II Flyby Photos It’s easy to plunge oneself into the nihilism that is our current political landscape, but the photos taken during the Artemis II mission offered something of an unfamiliar sensation upon viewing them. What was it…I can almost put my finger on it…oh yeah, a sense of hope.  Taken during Artemis II’s seven-hour flyby around the Moon on April 6, these images show the lunar far side in remarkable detail, along with an in-space solar eclipse. While, of course, this feat in itself is impressive, there was something else that seemed to touch the hearts and imagination of us back on Earth – a trust in science, a camaraderie with our Canadian neighbors (one of the astronauts on board was Jeremy Hansen with the Canadian Space Agency), and a change in perspective that, no matter what’s buzzing in the news cycle, we really are just a little blue marble rolling around the universe. Beef, Season 2 Netflix’s original series Beef is back for a second season, garnering similar critical acclaim as its first. This season, we meet an all-new cast, including Oscar Isaac, Carey Mulligan, Charles Melton, and Cailee Spaeny, and an all-new drama, focused ...

Does The New Off-Catalog Rolesium Rolex Cosmograph Daytona Really Have A Grand Feu Enamel Dial?

There’s nothing like a bit of confusion when it comes to terminology used in the description of watches. There’s something better, however - confusion caused by Rolex watches. Gagà Laboratorio’s New Aqualab Pulls Off A Tricky Design Brief

When I heard Gagà Laboratorio was launching its first dive watch, the Aqualab, I was skeptical. The brand’s distinct identity made me question how it would translate into a sportier, tool-oriented direction. That’s a testament to the uniqueness of its design language, not a criticism of its existing watches. The Labormatic, for example, always struck […] Visit Gagà Laboratorio’s New Aqualab Pulls Off A Tricky Design Brief to read the full article.
