HANDS-ON: Singing the blues with the ladies’ Ulysse Nardin Classico

We’re all taught the colours of the rainbow from pre-school, so it’s amazing how many of us grow up to wear only black. Anything brighter is definitely viewed as a risk, which is why smaller wardrobe items are a great starting point for that gamble. For guys, it might be a patterned pocket square or … ContinuedThe post HANDS-ON: Singing the blues with the ladies’ Ulysse Nardin Classico appeared first on Time+Tide Watches.

VIDEO: What’s Baselworld really like? Drink three coffees, watch this, you are there dude…

Felix and I are taking deep breaths. We’re getting plenty of exercise. Plenty of sun. And we’re changing our coffee order from latté to long-black, and – at least psychologically – replacing the contents of the water cooler with Cristal. Yes, Baselworld is only weeks away. For those that don’t know, the old B-W is the … ContinuedThe post VIDEO: What’s Baselworld really like? Drink three coffees, watch this, you are there dude… appeared first on Time+Tide Watches.

HANDS-ON: The appeal of Hublot’s Big Bang Unico Magic Sapphire is crystal clear

When Hublot released two takes on sapphire Big Bangs last year – the Unico Sapphire and the All Black version – we suspected that wouldn’t be the last we’d see of the clear case material. Lo and behold, our hunch has proved correct with the release of the Big Bang Unico Magic Sapphire. Compared to 2016’s … ContinuedThe post HANDS-ON: The appeal of Hublot’s Big Bang Unico Magic Sapphire is crystal clear appeared first on Time+Tide Watches.

HANDS-ON: Bulgari adds a touch of danger to the Octo Ultranero

Bulgari has unveiled some of its latest collection in advance of Baselworld, and we were lucky enough to get our hands on a few key pieces. One model that particularly took our fancy was this crimson and black take on the Octo Ultranero. The changes on this latest version of the Octo are purely cosmetic – it’s still … ContinuedThe post HANDS-ON: Bulgari adds a touch of danger to the Octo Ultranero appeared first on Time+Tide Watches.

HANDS-ON: the Metro neomatik Champagner - a new look for Nomos

For many years, the Nomos recipe for watchmaking success was straightforward: take clean-yet-quirky dial details with a few dashes of colour, set this against a neutral black or white backdrop and wrap the whole thing into a steel case. Not the most groundbreaking approach, but it’s certainly been effective in helping Nomos – once the definition … ContinuedThe post HANDS-ON: the Metro neomatik Champagner – a new look for Nomos appeared first on Time+Tide Watches.

SIHH 2017 Audemars Piguet Overview: The Offshored Design

Today, Audemars Piguet enriches its line of Royal Oak Perpetual Calendars with a full black version, made of hand-finished black ceramic. Day, date, month, astronomical moon, week of the year displayed on the dial’s outer chapter ring and the essential leap year indication hold pride of place on the “Grande Tapisserie” decorated dial. Housed in an assertively sized 41 mm case, the selfwinding watch’s larger calibre 5134 is fully visible through the glareproofed sapphire crystal caseback.

HANDS-ON: Hello Sailor! Franck Muller takes to the high seas with the Yachting collection

The last time we had Franck Muller in the office it was a bold Vanguard clad in sinister black and red – a watch that was at once sporty and menacing. Today we’re looking at another take on their trademark curved shape, and while the case and dial layout are the similar to the Vanguard, … ContinuedThe post HANDS-ON: Hello Sailor! GONE IN 60 SECONDS: Come to the Dark Side with the Bulgari Octo Ultranero

Few would contest that Bulgari’s Octo is a great watch – a distinctive design jam-packed with legacy. What could possibly make it better? Well, how about a mean, stealthy and downright cool black ADLC coating? Yeah, that’ll do the trick. If you’ve been on the fence about Bulgari, the Octo Ultranero will convert you. Hands-On With The Zenith Defy Extreme Ultraviolet

The Zenith Defy Extreme Ultraviolet is bold, unapologetically big, and has major wrist presence. And we love it! What We Love The look of the microblasted titanium case with the purple dial and strap The lightweight construction makes it easy to wear The 1/100th second chronograph is a fun complication to play with What We Don’t It is a larger watch that will not fit all wrists The style is not for everyone or everyday wear due to the size, design, and colour The power reserve could be stretched a little more to 60 hours if I’m being picky Overall Rating: 9 / 10 Value For Money: 8.5/10 Design: 9/10 Wearability: 9/10 Build Quality: 9.5/10 The Zenith DEFY Extreme is a cool watch, no matter how you look at it. This is the third DEFY Extreme I’ve been able to wear, and every time I put one on my wrist, it just feels right. Yes, it’s not exactly a technical analysis to start a watch review with, but there’s something about these watches that makes me smile. Last year, when I reviewed the DEFY Extreme Diver Shadow, I found it to be a surprisingly easy-wearing watch thanks to the titanium construction and the way Zenith has crafted the case design and bracelet. It wore exceptionally well on the wrist, although slightly smaller at 42.5mm. The Zenith DEFY Extreme models I went hands-on with last year However, I did then spend some time with the DEFY Extreme Lapis Lazuli with the high-polish two-tone case, which would be the Ultraviolet’s more flamboyant cousin. Introducing: The New Citizen Promaster Dive

What We Know It's summertime, which means it's perfect weather to spend some time near, in, or under the water. While I love a good hyper-overbuilt mechanical watch (and definitely want this one), I've come to realize that the best dive watches are probably the no-fuss, affordable ones. If I'm flying to the Bahamas and want to go on a quick dive, I'm going to grab a Citizen (oh wait, I did). With a bunch of new Citizen Eco-Drive divers (more like Eco-Dive, am I right?) rated to 200m, I figured it was time to share some great new picks. While four watches were just launched in Japan, the U.S. is getting three of them. There's a blue gradient dial with a dark blue stainless steel unidirectional bezel (my personal pick), a black dial with a black bezel, and a white dial with a black bezel and an orange seconds hand (and black printing, of course). That last one feels very James Stacey, if I had to guess. The watches are cased in a super-reasonable 40.6mm by 11.5mm stainless steel case with brushed surfaces and polished chamfers. Inside is the Eco-Drive Caliber E118, which has an accuracy of +/- 15 seconds per month and 12 months of power on a full light-powered charge. The watches are delivered on BENEBiOL straps, a plant-derived biomass urethane. All three options will be available on the Citizen website in the coming days and weeks as deliveries arrive in their US stock. The retail price is $450, so keep checking their shop to make sure you stay on top of when it's availabl...
