The Rolex Daydate, or rather known affectionately as the “president’s watch”, is perhaps one of Rolex’s most iconic models. The Daydate is a symbol of success and power, which is possibly one of the main reasons why the rich and famous are always seen wearing a Rolex Daydate on their wrists. In this year’s Baselworld, Rolex had decidedRead More

When a watch has the word traditional in it and it is a Piaget you can count that it will also feature a gold bracelet. Although a watchmaker long before venturing into the field of jewelry making, Piaget has been merging both crafts for longer than half a century. This has always been Piaget’s strength; […]

There are several pieces of apocrypha circulating about the genesis of the Cartier Crash. By some accounts, it was inspired by a watch that a Cartier London customer had brought in for servicing, a watch that had been involved in a traffic accident. Another story tells of how the vice president of Cartier London himself […]

Many watch brands have close ties to a single car brand, but it is Chopard that generously proclaims its love for all cars….but only if they are vintage! This could have something to do with the fact that Chopard’s co-President, Karl-Friedrich Scheufele, has a true passion for vintage sports cars and is known for occasionally […]

Two years ago, in 2012, Seiko introduced a Tenth Anniversary model of their Grand Seiko GMT watch –one with a strap, and one with a bracelet. The Grand Seiko watches are very well known among enthusiasts –so much so that if you’re reading this story at all you probably know about them already –but the […]

Sometimes a watch manufacturer releases a model that seems to catch the spirit of the market so well, that it transcends to the status of an icon. Such a thing happened for Piaget in 1979, when they first introduced the Piaget Polo. This all gold watch with integrated bracelet, captured, as no other watch, the luxurious and […]

Audemars Piguet has its Gerald Genta designed Royal Oak. A steel watch/steel bracelet model with automatic caliber which is highly praised by the watch incrowd. Patek Philippe has its counterpart, the Nautilus, also designed by Gerald Genta and sharing that same concept of a steel case / steel bracelet and automatic movement. Similarly, since 1978, […]

Superlatives are tricky things but we feel safe in saying the MikropendulumS, a new concept watch from TAG Heuer, and developed by their Vice President of Science and Engineering Guy Semon and his R&D; team, is perhaps the most radical departure from conventional watchmaking solutions we’ve seen yet, keeping company with such bleeding edge experiments […]

It was time for a change, said Larry Pettinelli, the president of Patek Philippe North America, and Thierry Stern, the company’s CEO, when we dropped by the company’s spacious and and welcoming new offices at 45 Rockefeller Plaza. It’s the first relocation of Patek Philippe’s offices in New York in 22 years, and the company’s […]

My interview with Hamdi Chatti, the vice president of Louis Vuitton Watches, was one of the most interesting of the 2012 Basel fair. The main topic of conversation related to this: I strongly believe that in the years ahead, the strongest and most established brands will only become stronger and continue to gain market share. […]

Not only had Zenith completely re-imagined the original Defy from the late 60s, but had designed a modern steel sports watch with today’s watch consumer in mind. A great blend of modern lines, a bold design and styling harking back to the original Defy that was released in 1969. With many integrated sports watches on the market these days, it is good to see that a brand like Zenith is taking inspiration from some of its earlier model lines and bringing this to today’s consumer. Now, full disclosure, this isn’t a loan watch for this review; I did order it back in April 2022 and, after a 6-month wait, finally had it on my wrist in October. So this is my hands-on review of the Zenith Defy Skyline now I’ve owned and worn for the past couple of months. And in that time, I’ve really put it through its paces – office work, beach, snorkelling, surfing, trap shooting, and overseas trips, to name a few! How it wears: The Defy Skyline has been designed for wearability. With a diameter of 4...
