On 11 October 2026 we went to WARO, the Romanian Watch Fair, at Novotel Bucharest City Centre and saw a lot of seriously cool watches. There were established names, smaller independent brands and designs that looked very different from the watches we usually see every day. We filmed a short video of some of the pieces we saw and tried. Unfortunately, we arrived late and could not get good shots of all the cool watches. The event brought together more than 35 exhibitors. Below are 19 brands we saw and photographed, with a closer look at their watches. Some of the cool watches we saw and tried at WARO 2026. Isotope: Moonshot Horizon The Isotope Chronograph Moonshot Horizon makes quite an entrance with its cyan blue dial, orange rings and orange strap. The three silver aluminium Moondiscs partly cover the chronograph registers, giving the dial a depth and shape that you do not usually see on a chronograph. Isotope is an independent English brand founded in 2016 and this is a good example of its willingness to do things differently. A Swiss automatic chronograph movement powers the watch inside a 41 mm Grade 5 titanium case, with production limited to 30 pieces. This serves as a double-edged sword. On one hand, you’re able to take a comprehensive and condensed look at the defining history and characteristics of German horological craftsmanship. On the other, it’s all too easy for brands to be overshadowed by their next-door neighbours, even when they’re among the best in the region. Such has been the case for Glashütte Original. What We Know It seems as though Raymond Weil has been everywhere this year as the Geneva-based, family-owned independent brand celebrates its 50th anniversary. The company entered the integrated-bracelet sport watch realm in June with its A.R.T. collection, launching a lovely chronograph—The Fifty—featuring a vintage, new old stock Valjoux movement from the year the brand was born, 1976. But RW is marking another milestone this year. Today, on October 10th (also World Watch Day, btw), Raymond Weil himself would have turned 100 if he were still with us. A frequent and enthusiastic traveler, the brand is paying tribute to its founder with a limited-edition model, the Freelancer World-Traveller. The star of the show for this run of 260 pieces is, most certainly, the dial. It's a relief-rendered world map in the style of the Mercator projection, rendered in textured champagne, against a dark blue background, representing the oceans. Rather than the brand logo, Raymond Weil's signature sits at 6 o'clock and above the date window. The indexes are applied and surrounded by a 24-hour scale in blue for the evening and beige for the daytime. The outer ring of the dial features 24 world cities and their corresponding time zones. Turning the knurled bezel rotates the city ring to allow for shifting time zones or tracking. Vintage U.S.Steel Lord Elgin Presentation Watch Here’s a cool piece to start us off this week, a vintage Lord Elgin U.S. Steel presentation watch. As one might expect, the case is steel, and looks to be unpolished with crisp edges and nice lugs. The caseback is engraved as a presentation to Gilbert Yager for 41 years of service to USS, dated February 1959. 41 years, that’s impressive! I hope Gibert got a little more than a watch though for that long! Anyways, the silver dial is clean, with applied steel hour markers and a nice subseconds dial at 6. There is a USS logo printed on the dial. No movement pictures but the watch runs per the seller. Fun piece with a cool history! View auction here Vintage Tissot Seastar Chronograph Next up is a sharp looking vintage Tissot Seastar chronograph. The 35mm steel case is unpolished with the original vertical brushed finish and sharp edges. Behind the scratched up acrylic crystal is a nice looking black dial with three white subdials. What We Know Angelus has dropped the curtain on three new limited-edition watches built on the same platform as the fan-favorite (and GPHG-winning) Chronographe Télémètre, only not quite. With this trio of novelties — appropriately dubbed the Chronographe Tachymètre — Angelus has dropped the telemeter scale, replacing it with a tachymeter, and bringing with it a slightly sportier look than we've come to expect from Angelus's most compact modern offering. The new model follows up a limited-edition take on the idea of a Chronographe Télémètre released in collaboration with Monochrome Watches earlier this year. But where that watch featured a double-tracked tachymeter and a decidedly vintage aesthetic, these new watches offer a decidedly different take on the concept, leaning into the look of midcentury racing watches. Here, that means you have the same bi-register chronograph layout, but with a single-track tachymeter and subdials finished in contrasting colors. Like the Chronographe Télémètre that preceded it, the new Chronographe Tachymètre is offered in three configurations, with two of those in steel cases and the other in yellow gold. The yellow gold offering — which is limited to 15 pieces — is fitted with a yellow-gold-tone dial with green (really, a very dark grey with a greenish hue) accents.
